Privacy: ID Scanning in Clubs and Pubs
Does the magnetic strip on the back of the club membership card just get you in the door?
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner has released "Information Sheet (Private Sector) 30 – 2010: ID scanning in clubs and pubs” which applies to private sector hospitality organisations that fall under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) s 6C. With technologies in banking and in many other aspects of our lives collecting private information it seemed only a matter of time before the collection of private information using scanning devices from club membership cards would arrive. The information sheet provides a useful guide for business using such technology and links to other related information.
