At TimeBase, we're all about the accuracy of our terminology and its relevance to discussing the legislation and its related materials. And we want all the people who use our LawOne and unique Point-in-Time Services to understand what this means too.

Common Terms Used Across our Products

Some of the most common terms used across our products include:

  • Act;
  • Bill;
  • Commencement;
  • Draft;
  • Expired;
  • Failed;
  • Regulation;
  • Repealed; and
  • Spent.

"Spent" is a really interesting term used for solely CTH regulations and defined by them to mean a regulation which is solely commencing, amending or repealing and has taken effect in full. Note that this only applies to a regulation which was made before the introduction of Section 48B of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003 (Cth) on 23 September 2012

These terms and many others are described in our Dictionary of Terms for LawOne, connected in our product homepages and also with interactive links through to our unique Information Resources Pages.
