Bonsoy Class Action Files Statement of Claim

Bonsoy, a soy milk subsitute, has been pulled off shelves after a high iodine content was found.

A statement of claim filed in court alleges Spiral Foods was in breach of the Trade Practices Act when it sold Bonsoy with the high levels of iodine, even though iodine is know to cause health problems.

Bernard Murphy, chairman of law firm Maurice Blackburn, said 25 people so far have joined the class-action lawsuit, but he expects many more people have not connected their reoccurring health problems with Bonsoy milk.

We have been seeing a reoccurrence of the ACCC taking action against food operators. Do you think this is a result of the strengthened provisions in the Trade Practices Act?
