Customs Point-in-Time Service Updates

Monday 16 March 2026 @ 11.00 a.m.

The Customs Point-in-Time Service has been updated to include the Law and Justice Legislation Amendment (New South Wales Local Court) Act 2026 (Cth) (Act No 4 of 2026).

Act 4 of 2026

This Act makes minor and technical amendments to the Acts Interpretation Act 1901 (Cth) and other Commonwealth legislation consequential to the making of the Local Court and Bail Legislation Amendment Act 2025 (NSW) (the NSW Act), which will replace the office of New South Wales magistrate with the office of judge of the NSW Local Court. The amendments are necessary to ensure that, on commencement of the NSW Act:

  • jurisdiction and powers conferred on NSW magistrates by Commonwealth law can continue to be validly exercised by judges of the NSW Local Court; and
  • judges of the NSW Local Court will not be able to exercise federal jurisdiction and powers beyond the intended scope of their office.

These amendments have been updated in the Point-in-Time Customs Service current to 16 March 2026 (NB: subscription required).
