Tuesday 27 October 2026 @ 10.45 a.m.

The Customs Point-in-Time Service has been updated to include the Regulatory Reform Omnibus Act 2026 (Cth) (Act No 87 of 2026) and the Customs Amendment (Safeguard Inquiries) Act 2026 (Cth) (Act No 92 of 2026).

Act 87 of 2026

The Act makes amendments to:

  • simplify and streamline regulation, particularly for businesses;
  • progress further changes to embed a ‘tell-us-once’ approach into a wider range of government activities;
  • make technical amendments to align definitions and improve the operation of existing regulation; and
  • repeal legislation which has become redundant on the Commonwealth statute book.

The Act also further supports and enhances the amendments made by the Regulatory Omnibus Act 2025 (Cth), and continue to progress long-term efforts to boost resilience and productivity in the Australian economy, implement better regulation and make it easier for Australians and businesses to interact with government.

Act 92 of 2026

The Act transfers the responsibility for safeguard inquiries from the Productivity Commission to the renamed Australian Trade Remedies Commission (ATRC) (formerly the Anti-Dumping Commission).

The Act aims to support the Government’s commitment to ongoing, practical, regulatory improvement by consolidating all trade remedy functions within a single specialist body. The Act renames the Anti-Dumping Commission as the ATRC and the Commissioner of the Anti-Dumping Commission to the Commissioner of the ATRC (Commissioner).

This amendment will enhance accessibility for Australian industry and also harmonise trade remedy actions through operational alignment and capability uplift to support Australian manufacturers and consumers. The Act also makes consequential amendments to update references in the Customs Act 1901 (Cth) and the Customs Tariff (Anti-Dumping) Act 1975 (Cth) to reflect this change.

These amendments have been updated in the Point-in-Time Customs Service current to 25 October 2026 (NB: subscription required).
