Mining Tax 'Rethink'

Big businesses has demanded the government put its mining tax on the table as part of a wholesale reconsideration of the Henry review, urging Labor to show leadership by prioritising sweeping tax reform that includes the GST and conduct a broad cost-benefit analysis on its $43 billion National Broadband Network plan and provide business with certainty over its plans for a price on carbon.

But the chairs of some of the nation's biggest companies fear the hung parliament heralds a return to a period of reform "stagnation".

The business leaders said they feared that having a minority government would stand in the way of bold economic reforms that would boost productivity across the economy.
