Coles plans roll-out of online groceries

Coles is testing a scheme that allows customers to shop online and pick up groceries at petrol stations, potentially reshaping the way Australians shop for food.

The Wesfarmers-owned supermarket chain has begun experimenting with a program that enables customers to place orders online and pick them up at part of Shell's network of 620 petrol stations. The plan, called Click & Collect, is already available through 23 grocery store locations.

Allowing customers to pick up their purchases at a nationwide network of petrol stations may fast-track Australians' embrace of online shopping, while presenting a new challenge to rival Woolworths, which is planning similar services.
