Pressure on NSW Criminal Court System has eased

Pressure on the criminal court system in NSW has eased in the twelve months.

The number imprisoned fell from 945 in 2009 to 712 in 2010.

There has been a 25% drop in people imprisoned for driver's licence offences.

Percentage of people found guilty of driver's licence offences and subsequently jailed remained steady.

Overall the workload for the Local Court fell by 9.4% in 2010, and there was a 10.3% drop in matters finalised in the Children's Court.
