Higher Rates of Legal Issues for the Disabled

A new report by Law and Justice New South Wales has revealed a fundamental social issue in which people suffering from serious disabilities are ten times more likely to encounter legal problems.
The relationship is particularly true for persons suffering from mental illness.
The issue is readily apparent in the case of Broken Hill as it has the highest rates of disability pensioners but also the lowest level of support services in all of New South Wales, says local solicitor Rachel Storey.
According to Ms Storey, Broken Hill lacks a community justice centre to assist in resolving legal disputes in civil matters. She stresses the importance of this process for the disabled as a good way to avoid the stress incurred in complex legal processes.
