Scientology Tax Update: Senate Inquiry Handed Down Final Report

The Senate Committee Inquiry into the Tax Laws Amendment (Public Benefit Test) Bill 2010 has handed down its final report. The Senate inquiry heard from a number of former members of the Church of Scientology.

The Four Corners report: Scientology: The Ex-Files which aired back in March, includes extended interviews with some of these former members.

Four Corners have been tracking the developments of this inquiry and state:  

"The Committee's main recommendations are: the establishment of an independent Charities Commission; public benefit test for not-for-profit entities; review of cults beyond taxation law; working with Miviludes, a French government agency, and other international enforcement agencies tasked with monitoring cult-like organisations that use psychological pressure and breaches of general and industrial law to maintain control over individual."
