Australian Consumer Law and Travellers - Fighting Travel Rip-offs

Friday 21 January 2011 @ 4.17 p.m. | Trade & Commerce

The new Australian Consumer Law (ACL) replaces the old Trade Practices Act entirely and covers all states and territories, restricting companies from many sorts of unfair behaviour, in particular targeting practices like unfair airline, travel agent and hire car rules.

One of the top issues broached by the new ACL is standard forms of agreement, mandating that the new SFOA must not have terms and conditions that are "not reasonably necessary to protect the legitimate interests of the supplier; and it would cause financial or non-financial detriment to a consumer".

Do you think the new ACL is a good move? Or is it too early to tell?
