Premier Anna Bligh has stated that the maximum penalty for serious animal cruelty cases in Queensland will be tripled following several disgusting attacks.

The state's criminal code will be amended to a maximum seven years jail time from the previous maximum of two years. The SMH explained that the move was the result of recent attacks on animals that had shocked the community. This included baby koala Frodo being shot with an air rifle and a dog who had his eyes glued shut. Read full article.

"The Message is clear. People in this community care about animals and they don't want to see sickening acts of cruelty." Anna Bligh told reporters.

The laws will be introduced in Parliament by midyear and are expected to pass by the end of the year. To keep up to date with Qld Legislation why not try a free trial of TimeBase's LawOne easy to use and daily alert service product.
