Win for Packer, Murdoch as One.Tel case dismissed

Lachlan Murdoch and James Packer succeeded in having a $244 million lawsuit over the One.Tel collapse thrown out of court this morning.

The case by One.Tel’s special purpose liquidator Paul Weston sought damages from the former One.Tel directors over the company’s abandonment of a $132 million rights issue on the eve of its collapse. Companies associated with Mr Packer and Mr Murdoch had agreed to underwrite the capital raising.

Lawyers for Mr Packer and Mr Murdoch had argued that the court should not have granted extensions for Mr Weston to activate his suit
