New Australian laws to tackle waterfront crime

The Australian Government has announced a crackdown on what it has described as "cancerous" corruption on Australia's waterfronts.

A police taskforce has recommended new laws granting police extra powers to tackle corruption and crime in Australian docks and border protection agencies.

The taskforce has netted 12 tonnes of illicit substances in two years.

The changes would allow authorities to revoke or refuse the security clearance of dock workers if there is strong intelligence linking them to criminal activity.
