Monday 25 June 2012 @ 2.37 p.m. | Legal Research

The Government today welcomed the first Equal Remuneration Order handed down by Fair Work Australia. Over 150,000 of Australia's lowest paid workers will benefit from regular pay rises totalling between 23 and 45 per cent from 1 December this year. The Order details how the social and community sector workers will receive their significant pay rises.

The pay increases will take effect over an 8 year phasing in period. Workers include women working with people with a disability, counselling families in crisis, and domestic violence. The workers are those that "make a difference every day" and deservice to properly rewarded.

The Government will provide more than $2 billion to pay its share of the wage increase granted by FWA.
