Footballer charged over alleged king hit

The Law Society says violence in sport is increasingly finding its way to the legal system.

Police have charged a 30-year-old Port Augusta man with assault over an incident in the Spencer Gulf Football League reserve grade grand final last October.

The man allegedly punched an opposing player in the head during the third quarter of the game at Memorial Oval at Port Pirie.

Morry Bailes of the Law Society said the notion of 'what happens on the field stays on the field' was changing.
