Class Action for Black Saturday Bushfires Heads to Court

According to an abc news article, lawyers for the Black Saturday bushfires at Kilmore East in Victoria will head to court today for the start of their class action.

The Black Saturday bushfires claimed 119 lives and lawyers are suing the electricity company SP AusNet amid claims a faulty power line started the blaze in February 2009. The action encompasses the area burnt including Kilmore East, Kinglake, Strathewen, Steels Creek and other towns.

Maurice Blackburn Cashman are also conducting a second class action for The Murrindindi/Marysville class action. This encompasses the area burnt including Murrindindi, Narbethong, Marysville, Buxton, Taggerty.
