ACCC authorises RACQ and its Approved Repairers to offer a warranty repair service
Thursday 30 May 2013 @ 12.09 p.m. | Legal Research
The Royal Automobile Club of Queensland and its Approved Repairers have been granted authorisation by the ACCC to set the labour rate for warranty repairs undertaken by another Approved Repairer.
ACCC Deputy Chair Dr Michael Schaper has said that this will assist repairers to better compete with larger network repairers, and will be particularly convenient for members who are travelling and do not have access to their usual mechanic.
Under the proposed scheme, defects in an original repair will be able to be fixed by any RACQ Approved Repairer at no cost to the member.
ACCC authorisation provides statutory protection from court action for conduct which may otherwise raise concerns under the provisions of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 dealing with competition. ACCC authorisation continues for five years, and can be granted where the ACCC believes that the public benefit stemming from the conduct would outweigh any possible public detriment.
