The Queensland Independent Remuneration Tribunal Act 2013 has been assented, establishishing the Queensland Independent Remuneration Tribunal to review and decide remuneration with respect to members and former members of the Assembly.

The new tribunal consists of 3 persons appointed by the Governor in Council, and has a twofold function: to review remuneration in connection with members and former members of the Assembly; and to make determinations under the Act about that remuneration (see Section 7).

The specific powers of the tribunal are not specified; however, Section 8 provides that it has "the powers necessary or convenient to perform the tribunal’s functions."

The Bill was first introduced on 6 August 2013 by Hon C Newman MP, and is taken to have commenced on 9 August 2013. The tribunal will make its first determination by 15 October 2013.
