New Judges Appointed to NSW Supreme Court and Qld and WA District Courts

The NSW Attorney General Gabrielle Upton has announced the appointment of two judges to the New South Wales Supreme Court. Meanwhile, Western Australia and Queensland have both appointed new District Court judges. 

New South Wales Appointment

Crown Advocate Natalie Adams SC and barrister Anthony Payne SC have been appointed to join the New South Wales Supreme Court bench with Mr. Payne also appointed to the Court of Appeal. The newly appointed judges will fill the positions vacated by Justice Peter Hidden and Justice Arthur Emmett. 

Ms. Adams has had 27 years of practical experience in criminal law. She was appointed as the Crown Advocate in 2011 and took silk in 2012. Mr. Payne has had 20 years of experience in commercial litigation, and governmental international law matters. He was appointed Senior Council in 2008 and served as the Commonwealth Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions as well as the Chairman of the Finance Investment and Audit, and Education committees.

Western Australia Appointment

Western Australia Attorney General Michael Mischin has appointed respected barrister Alan Troy as a judge of the Western Australian District Court. The President of the law Society of Western Australia, Elizabeth Needham said: 

"I have no doubt Mr Troy will prove to be a fine Judge of the District Court. He brings a wealth of experience to the position and is well regarded within the legal profession." 

Queensland Appointment

Meanwhile, in Queensland, silk David Kent has joined the bench in the Queensland District Court. Mr. Kent was called to the bar in 1989 and has experience in criminal law, personal injury matters, industrial hearings, and in the areas of administrative and commercial law.
