New South Wales Attorney General Gabrielle Upton has appointed Doctor David Kell as NSW’s new Crown advocate. Meanwhile, in the Australian Capital Territory, the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal sees the appointment of Graeme Neate AM as its new president.
NSW Crown Advocate
Dr Kell was appointed to the position to replace the previous Crown Advocate, the Honourable Justice Natalie Adams SC, who was appointed to the Supreme Court of New South Wales in April 2016. Ms Upton praised Dr Kell as an “outstanding lawyer with many years’ experience in law, including 15 years at the NSW bar.” Prior to being appointed to the position, Dr Kell was the acting Crown Advocate of NSW and had demonstrated exemplary work.
Dr Kell has had a rich experience in his legal career extending from work in a major commercial law firm to working as an associate to former Justice Michael McHugh of the High Court. He has a wide range of experiences in administrative, criminal, constitutional and commercial law appearing in both State courts as well as the High Court.
ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal President
ACT Attorney General Simon Corbell announced the appointment of Mr Neate earlier in the month. Mr Neate will serve as the president of the tribunal for a period of seven years after the retirement of the incumbent Linda Crebbin in January 2017. Mr Corbell says:
“Mr Neate brings a wealth of experience across a broad range of disciplines and I am confident that his appointment as President will ensure that the Tribunal continues to provide the highest quality services to the ACT community.”
Mr Neate is currently serving as an Industrial Commissioner of the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission. Prior to this, he was the President of the National Native Title Tribunal. “With his extensive leadership experience in Tribunals, strong decision-making skills and collegiate and collaborative spirit, I am confident Mr Neate will be an effective leader with a strong community focus,” Mr Corbell said.
